Latent heat thermophotovoltaic batteries

چکیده
Summary Latent heat thermophotovoltaic (LHTPV) batteries store electricity as latent at very high temperatures (>1,000°C) and convert this back to on demand using thermophotovoltaics (TPVs). In study, we discuss the techno-economics of LHTPV systems, focusing parameters such round-trip efficiency, energy-to-power ratio, cost per energy power capacities, levelized storage. The low storage media (<4 €/kWh) results in optimal designs with ratios, fitting long-duration (LDS) applications. Shorter-duration applications are also possible by increasing overall conversion efficiency through cogeneration, that is, combined (CHP) generation. Results indicate systems can provide lower than Li-ion both LDS CHP Preliminary experimental provided illustrate real operation a system.

The Latent Heat Saga
A n outstanding scientific and technological achievement of the twentieth century has been the evolution of nuclear energy which forms part of the mix of energy sources on which the continued growth of our civilization depends. In the twenty-first century we may be blessed with the arrival of another source of energy, of similar magnitude, which is more benign than nuclear energy and does not h...
متن کاملLatent heat of nuclear matter
We study the latent heat of the liquid-gas phase transition in symmetric nuclear matter using self-consistent mean-field calculations with a few Skyrme forces. The temperature dependence of the latent heat is rather independent of the mean-field parametrization and can be characterized by a few parameters. At low temperatures, the latent heat tends to the saturation energy. Near the critical po...
متن کاملSliver Cells in Thermophotovoltaic Systems
Thermophotovoltaic systems are direct conversion heat engines that use photovoltaic cells to convert radiant energy from a heated object to electrical energy. Sources of heat for thermophotovoltaic (TPV) systems include sunlight, the combustion of fossil fuels, radioactive decay and industrial waste heat. Previous modelling indicated that thin photovoltaic cells were optimal for use in TPV syst...
متن کاملThe fractional latent heat of crystallizing magmas
The fractional latent heat of a crystallizing system is simply the latent heat of fusion divided by the total enthalpy. When plotted against temperature, this function displays robust pulses with the successive saturation of each incoming crystal phase. Each pulse endures for tens of degrees, corresponding to tens to hundreds of thousands of years in large magma bodies. From an original 1963 de...
متن کاملEfficiently exploiting the waste heat in solid oxide fuel cell by means of thermophotovoltaic cell
A novel hybrid device exploiting waste heat in solid oxide fuel cells is designed. The hybrid device includes a solid oxide fuel cell and a thermophotovoltaic cell. The performances of the hybrid device and the single SOFC are compared. The optimally operating regions of the hybrid device are determined. The advantages of the hybrid device over other SOFC-based hybrid systems are shown. a r t i...
